I recently saw online that the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is apparently starting a super futuristic project called "Longevity Island" ✨
At first glance, you might think "Wow, amazing! I want to stay healthy forever!" but when you think about it carefully, there are some aspects that make me a bit uneasy 😳
What exactly is "Longevity Island"?
It's apparently an island planned near Dubai that combines resort and residential facilities with a health and longevity theme 💡
The goal seems to be providing cutting-edge medical technology and wellness services to help residents live healthier and longer lives.
But the lineup of doctors and services listed on their website somehow gives me a feeling of "Is this too futuristic... and scary?" 🤔
(Some people seem to be reminded of past scandals too)
Do people really want to "live forever"?
Honestly speaking, while more people are traveling for advanced medical and beauty treatments, I wonder how many retirees would actually consider moving here 💭
I feel like there's a difference between wanting to "live a little longer" and wanting to "live forever and ever."
To be honest, I can't really imagine a future where we live forever either 🥺
Dubai's bold projects always make me nervous
Dubai has come up with super high-concept plans like "smart cities" and "underwater cities" in the past, but many of them are questionable in terms of how much has actually been completed 😅
So with this Longevity Island too, it's still unclear whether it's:
- A genuine "island of health and longevity" that will actually be realized in the future
- More of a PR thing to showcase futuristic appeal
- A "vanity project" for investors that prioritizes appearance over substance
That aspect still seems uncertain 💬
To summarize...
💬 Thinking about it this way, I feel like Longevity Island is "a new attempt to challenge health and longevity, but it's still unclear how realistic it actually is" ✨
Personally, I think more accessible, sustainable health practices and small daily improvements feel much more realistic and important 🌸
But if such bold challenges actually take shape, that would be really interesting in its own way, so I want to keep an eye on how this develops 👍

This seems like the medical facility that Trump tweeted about.

It's clever business by the developers. Genetics are the most important factor for longevity, followed by diet and lifestyle, then medical care - but this location is too hot to be ideal for living, and the food would have to be imported, so it's not perfect. Ultimately, they can only control the medical aspect, which can be replicated anywhere.

This project is ambitious, but I wonder if longevity technology will really advance enough by 2027. Will we need cities like this in the future, or is this just about making money?
