I recently learned that global warming countermeasures aren't going as well as we thought 😳💭
According to a new UN report, greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 broke the previous record high 💥✨
Why? Isn't Climate Action Making Progress?
That's what you'd think, right? Even though countries are making various promises to "fight climate change!", emissions aren't actually decreasing 😵💫
Looking at recent trends...
- Fossil fuel usage is still high (like coal and oil) 🛢️
- Energy consumption is increasing with economic growth 💡
- Some countries are lagging in implementing environmental policies 💨
Because of this, if current trends continue, temperatures could rise by about 2.8 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels 😰
2.8 Degrees Instead of 2 Degrees? Is That Bad?
Yeah, once temperatures exceed 2 degrees, sea level rise and extreme weather events become more severe, with major impacts on natural disasters and ecosystems 🥺🌊
The "2-degree rule" is an international target we're "trying to keep below!", but it seems likely we'll exceed it 💭
Is There Anything We Can Actually Do?
When it comes to such a big issue, you might think "Can I really make a difference alone?" but I believe small actions add up and matter 💡✨
For example:
- Turn off lights when not needed 🔌
- Reduce unnecessary car trips 🚶♀️
- Minimize waste and recycle ♻️
- Choose eco-friendly products 🛍️
Even these small things can make quite a difference if everyone does them 🌸
Seems Like We Still Have a Long Way to Go
Honestly, the UN report is a bit scary, but that's exactly why I think it's important to maintain that "we have to do something" mindset 😌💭
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about what we can do for the future 🥺💗

Having a plan is meaningless if no one implements it.
ベン
Wow, I'm shocked! Even though we've had warnings for decades.
ロバート
Since the UN is finally taking action, maybe we'll see concrete steps.
ノーラン
Radical actions to combat climate change might become morally necessary. This is pretty serious.
リリー
Even with new climate pledges, the UN says warming could continue up to 2.5 degrees by the end of this century.
クリス
Major emitting countries should commit to deeper, faster reductions to stay within 1.5 degrees.
グレース
Global emissions in 2024 increased 2.3% from the previous year, mainly due to India, China, Russia, and Indonesia.
ハンナ
The wealthy keep getting permission to want more money, and protesting online won't change anything... someday (sarcastic).
ジョージ
The rich who run the world don't care because they hate seeing profits decrease.
ワット
I want to tell the world that plans are meaningless unless put into action.
エマ
Should we call Taylor Swift and tell her to stop using private jets?
クロエ
2.5 degrees of warming is bad, but still manageable.
ロバート
It's not 'uninhabitable Earth' and it's better than the worst-case scenarios from before.
ミア
Climate change is bending the curve and gradually moving in a better direction.
サラ
That was more like ideas than actual plans, just proposals really.
サム
I gave up on fighting climate change years ago. There's not enough political will, and if the US doesn't care, it's hopeless. We just have to adapt.
ノーラン
The world's powerful are building underground shelters. That alone tells you how serious they are.
リリー
Climate change means extremes in temperature and humidity, and while there are no official models showing exactly what will change where, weather prediction models seem quite accurate. If such technology existed, it would be worth trillions. Look at where people are buying land for clues.
クリス
Zuckerberg is buying land in Hawaii long-term, so that area will likely remain habitable.
