What's the Simplest Way to Protect Your Privacy? Maybe It's Avoiding Technology as Much as Possible!

Smartphones and the internet are everywhere in our daily lives. Are we really protecting our privacy? Could the most reliable way actually be 'keeping our distance from technology'...? I casually pondered this simple question 💡

I've kind of felt this way for a while, but privacy is something that really makes me think 💭

Smartphones and computers are convenient, but sometimes I get really scared that my information might be leaking somewhere 😳
But when you think about it, isn't the most certain way to protect your privacy actually "avoiding using technology as much as possible"?

Why Do We Worry About Privacy in the First Place?

Websites collect information for advertising, apps sometimes use location data without permission...
Even when they say "your personal information is protected," it feels like there are always loopholes, doesn't it? 🥺

So What Should We Do?

Thinking about simple things we can do:

  • Reduce smartphone usage time 📵
  • Decrease opportunities to connect to the internet 🌐
  • Review app permissions a bit 🔧

Just doing these things can reduce the risk of your information flowing everywhere 💡

But honestly, if you want perfect protection, stepping away from digital might be the simplest and most certain way

But Isn't That Inconvenient?

Yeah yeah, I definitely think that too! At first I thought "Life without a smartphone is impossible..."
And since there's work and communication with friends, completely giving up seems unrealistic 😆

But for example, trying to leave your smartphone behind when going for a walk,
or creating SNS-free time just in the evenings can make the burden on your privacy feel a bit lighter 🫶

Ways to Gradually Distance Yourself from Technology

  • Reduce entering personal information online
  • Turn off SNS notifications 🔕
  • Increase hobbies you can enjoy offline 🎨

With these small adjustments, you can increase the time you can live safely at your own pace

In the end, rather than saying "Technology is bad!"
I realized that how we interact with it is what matters 💭

It's a bit bothersome, but to protect your privacy, I feel once again that having awareness to protect yourself is important 🌸

I don't like everyone walking around paranoid, but we have to be careful about personal information. Even casual conversations with strangers can reveal a lot.

It's scary when stores ask for your phone number or email right away when shopping.

The best way to protect privacy is not to disclose information that can identify you.

Paying with cash or cryptocurrency makes it harder to be tracked.

Ataror of Robert

Be careful with what you say and do. Stores don't really need your phone number or email, cash is the safest. Cryptocurrency is next best. You don't need to use your real name when registering either.

That last smiley face sounds like something from the Unabomber's manifesto.

I feel the same. I'm completely off-grid except for iPhone, iPad, VR headset and desktop. Feel like nobody knows me. It's like being Ted Kaczynski.
