I tried it to check my own writing.
Unfortunately, it does not work reliably on many modern websites.
It extracts the entire HTML and can flag issues in parts of the page that are not visible on screen.
The tool is intended for pure HTML pages. However, it is excellent that it also runs on local servers (IP addresses such as 192.168).

Shodo is free for up to 120 characters. Bunken is aimed at enterprises and I have not used it.
There are more options for non-Japanese languages, but none of them supported Japanese.
Recently, AI-based proofreading has become popular, but sending text to external AI services can be slow and time-consuming. Personally, I wanted a basic typo and spelling check similar to what Word provides.
Ideally, a UI where the check results are displayed in a sidebar while browsing would be best.
If I have time, I might try to build such a tool.
